Collards and Black-eyed Peas (Ch 4: Goldsboro 2nd, Week 3)

And it came to pass in the third week of the third transfer I got to go to the temple!!

Happy New Year! It's already 2026!? This is my blackout year! Meaning I'm going to be a missionary for the whole year of 2026. And apparently in the south there's an old wives tale saying if you eat collards and black-eyed peas you'll get rich. So some members had us over and served us some along with some amazing southern food! Deep fried chicken, sweet potato casserole, and rice. Whatever they do to the rice out here it is amazing! I've been getting lots of good Southern cooking here in Goldsboro and lots of leftovers too!

I went to the Temple on Friday!!!!!! One of our new members recently hit her year mark as a member so she was able to go through the temple and get endowed and we got permission to go with her! She also was sealed to her deceased husband which is so cool! It was so awesome to be in the temple again. It's been too long since I've been able to go.

Update on Mere! He's doing really well! He's reading and listening to the Book of Mormon and he wants to change and become a better person! I'm excited to keep teaching him!

Exchanges! I went to Mount Olive with Elder Hawker from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon. It was pretty fun. Really similar to Siler City because the work isn't moving too fast, a decent amount of people don't speak English (they speak Haitian-Creole), and they are told to do even more service than in Siler! They are told to aim for 10-12 hours each week! It was a lot of fun to he with Elder Hawker! I really enjoyed his company. We didn't run into any Haitians while I was there but I here there's a lot.

Highlight of the week (besides the temple) was definitely processing a rooster again! For Christmas Lizzy sent me adorable stuffed animals that she made and one of the was a rooster that she stuffed with candy and a note saying to process it! The video file of me processing it is too big to attach but it was a blast! And the rest of them are Eldersaurs which are adorable! Picture attached but they all have ties and tags!

Recently I listened to President Holland's BYU devotional "Remember Lot's Wife" given around new years 2009. In it he briefly switches his topic to repentance and says:

"When something is over and done with, when it has been repented of as fully as it can be repented of, when life has moved on as it should and a lot of other wonderfully good things have happened since then, it is not right to go back and open up some ancient wound that the Son of God Himself died trying to heal."

He went on to exclaim "Let people repent!" and explained that this applies to yourself as well, not just others. Repentance is one of the most miraculous gifts we have been given. Use it! And then forget past mistakes, both your own and others. As President Holland said, "You can remember just enough to avoid repeating the mistake, but then put the rest of it all on the dung heap Paul spoke of to those Philippians."

I love y'all!
And thus ended the third week of the third transfer.

Elder Pedersen and I at the Temple!

Church History Museum Visit

My mom and I made this collage for a scout requirement. My mom accidentally put the wrong year on the picture. These pictures are actually from our trip to Utah last December. It was 2015. For scouts I need to write about how this experience helped me feel reverent or helped me better understand my duty to God. It helped me feel reverent because it has historical and religious stuff and only historical and religious stuff. And modern day religious stuff. One example was a replica of the golden plates. We got to lift it to see how heavy they were. They said it was 50 pounds and it was REALLY heavy! Also, I got to see a video that had my Grandma Lynn in it. It was about the early members of the church who were trying to decide who the next prophet should be after Joseph Smith died. Several people had a really strong spiritual experience when Brigham Young began to talk to them and the Holy Ghost helped them know that Brigham Young should be their next prophet. We also went ...

First Week of Home School

On Monday we started home school, On Wednesday at home school I finished a really good book called The Best in the West . It is very interesting. There is an almost eight foot bear in the book! The other book I have read this week is The Tale of Peter Rabbit . It is on my Battle of the Books list. My favorite topic this week has been math. One of the things I learned in math is the hyphen. You don't use a hyphen in numbers one-twenty or in numbers ending in zero. (Because those are whole numbers.) But you do use a hyphen in numbers like twenty-one. I have finished lesson 51. I did all of those lessons plus several quizzes. We went on a walk and saw salmon. They are getting ready to lay eggs and die. They were flopping a lot and fighting over who gets to be in the exact spot where they were born. I got to shoot a BB gun for science. We learned about inertia. We were doing science by shooting the BB gun at a can to see...

A Story From When I was LIttle and Other Stuff

Recently I have been interested in hearing stories about when I was little. One of my favorite stories that Mom told me was about when Ammon and I were little and we would hog the bed. She said that I would come get in her bed over and over again. Dad would carry me back to my own bed, but I would always come back. She said that even though I was small, I would take up ALL the space. Somehow I could make my arms sprawl all over the queen sized bed so there was hardly any room left. When Ammon also tried to get into Mom and Dad's bed it was even worse. Sometimes Dad would just give up on having room and he would go sleep on the couch for the rest of the night. Right now I live in Craig, Alaska on Prince of Wales Island. All of my cousins are in Utah and all of my grandparents are also in Utah. I miss them and am going to visit them in just a few weeks for my baptism. I am inviting all of my cousins, grandmas and grandpas and maybe some of my uncles and one or two aunts. I already ...
