Chapter 2: Siler City North Carolina (Week 4)

And it came to pass in the fourth week of the first transfer...

Elder Kearon of the 12 apostles came to our mission on Sunday! I got to shake his hand and then he spoke for 90ish minutes. He's probably the best speaker ever for a few reasons. He had some audience participation so it was more engaging. Every now and then he had us stand and stretch which was great and made it a lot more comfortable to not sit for so long. He's also super funny and his sarcasm is similar to mine! He has a very teasing but loving sarcasm. He talked about finding joy in missionary work and expressing that joy to others because this gospel is filled with joy and we share the most joyful message. Most of you probably remember his general conference talk titled "the church of joy". It's a huge focus of his. My favorite quote: "someone will be flogged for that" like I said teasing sarcasm but he says it with so much love and jokingness.

They try to do an exchange every week but my entire district is sisters besides us so it hasn't happened until this week and I got to do two! One with Zone leaders and one with APs. A regular exchange is swapping places with another missionary for 24 hours. I had one of those and it was super fun! I was in a trio for that which was cool. My second exchange was a blitz exchange which, from what I gather, pretty much only happens with assistants to the president (APs) and we had an AP blitz exchange. A blitz is when a missionary just joins us for 24 hours and neither of us leave so I was in a trio again! Side note: here they call the people on your first exchange your Godfather and I have 2! Elder Crandall and Elder Holt.

Not much else happened this week. Lots and lots of meetings. We had over 3 hours of total drive time every day Thursday-Sunday between exchanges and meetings. After the adult session of stake conference there were crumbl cookies! And they bought way way way too many. Between us and the Spanish Elders that live next door we were send home with nearly 30 crumbl cookies!

My ZL shared some wonderful scriptures with me like Mosiah 17:13 and Mosiah 21:3 but today I want to share 2 Nephi 2:25.
"Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy."
The first part is about how Adam fell so that he would be able to have kids and man might be, but the second part is much more important to me. Men are that they might have joy. We are on this earth to learn and grow through trials. We are also on this earth to have joy! We should choose to be happy and consciously train ourselves to have joy even in our trials. There is always joy to be find in the gospel because even if there is no joy to be found in our current circumstances there is so much joy to be found in the future and in the eternities!

Love y'all!
And thus ended the fourth week of the first transfer

Here's what about 127 six-packs of Crumbl cookies looks like

(Hopefully a few more pictures get sent to me before the end of the day.)

Church History Museum Visit

My mom and I made this collage for a scout requirement. My mom accidentally put the wrong year on the picture. These pictures are actually from our trip to Utah last December. It was 2015. For scouts I need to write about how this experience helped me feel reverent or helped me better understand my duty to God. It helped me feel reverent because it has historical and religious stuff and only historical and religious stuff. And modern day religious stuff. One example was a replica of the golden plates. We got to lift it to see how heavy they were. They said it was 50 pounds and it was REALLY heavy! Also, I got to see a video that had my Grandma Lynn in it. It was about the early members of the church who were trying to decide who the next prophet should be after Joseph Smith died. Several people had a really strong spiritual experience when Brigham Young began to talk to them and the Holy Ghost helped them know that Brigham Young should be their next prophet. We also went ...

First Week of Home School

On Monday we started home school, On Wednesday at home school I finished a really good book called The Best in the West . It is very interesting. There is an almost eight foot bear in the book! The other book I have read this week is The Tale of Peter Rabbit . It is on my Battle of the Books list. My favorite topic this week has been math. One of the things I learned in math is the hyphen. You don't use a hyphen in numbers one-twenty or in numbers ending in zero. (Because those are whole numbers.) But you do use a hyphen in numbers like twenty-one. I have finished lesson 51. I did all of those lessons plus several quizzes. We went on a walk and saw salmon. They are getting ready to lay eggs and die. They were flopping a lot and fighting over who gets to be in the exact spot where they were born. I got to shoot a BB gun for science. We learned about inertia. We were doing science by shooting the BB gun at a can to see...

A Story From When I was LIttle and Other Stuff

Recently I have been interested in hearing stories about when I was little. One of my favorite stories that Mom told me was about when Ammon and I were little and we would hog the bed. She said that I would come get in her bed over and over again. Dad would carry me back to my own bed, but I would always come back. She said that even though I was small, I would take up ALL the space. Somehow I could make my arms sprawl all over the queen sized bed so there was hardly any room left. When Ammon also tried to get into Mom and Dad's bed it was even worse. Sometimes Dad would just give up on having room and he would go sleep on the couch for the rest of the night. Right now I live in Craig, Alaska on Prince of Wales Island. All of my cousins are in Utah and all of my grandparents are also in Utah. I miss them and am going to visit them in just a few weeks for my baptism. I am inviting all of my cousins, grandmas and grandpas and maybe some of my uncles and one or two aunts. I already ...
