The Promised Land (Ch6: Lake Wheeler, W1)

And it came to pass the commencement of the fifth transfer was indescribable

We now have permission to go to the temple once a transfer. Because temples are closed on Monday we can move our Pday one time to go to the temple that day. I'll try to warn y'all before that happens if possible, but if there's no Monday email that's why.

Transfer news! I am in a trio in Lake Wheeler, which is in the South Raleigh Stake! It is considered one of the most elect areas in the mission. I've heard it called "The Promised Land"

Apartment: it's my first one bed one bath apartment and it's for a trio. It's also the smallest apartment I've had. We have a bunk bed as well. It was also filled with random junk from previous Elders. I've spent over 3 hours organizing stuff that people might actually want one day and throwing away anything that's broken, useless or gross. Overall the apartment isn't actually too bad now, even if it is small.

Companions:
-Elder Brooks. At transfers everyone said two things "he's a dawg and he's crazy" that is accurate. He is super experienced! He has been out 20 months and was a zone leader for 10 transfers (60 weeks) and was trained by zone leaders. I'm learning a ton from him! He's really good at getting free stuff, like fries from McDonald's.

-Elder Freeman. He is also awesome! This is his third transfer. We have quite a bit in common. We love math and we did ballroom dancing.

Area: this area is crazy. This is the most indescribable part. There are a ton of crazy people. We talked to a devil worshipper. Another person said her biggest trial in life was a witch that cut her hair in the middle of the night. We invited a guy to church and got a tour of the fish breeding farm he has in his apartment. Another guy confessed he was a drug dealer. There are more examples but those are my favorite. And it's only been almost 4 days in Lake Wheeler.

The people are also really elect and we are being very selective with who we teach! We are still planting seeds but the only people we are getting contact info from are those who are committing to church, not just a "maybe" or "I'll try my best". It's different than what I'm used to but I love it! And all 3 of us agreed on day 1 that it's better so we can spend time on those who are going to keep commitments and progress. There are also tons of people here willing to do that and God is leading us to them!

We talked to a Muslim right after Ramadan ended apparently and got some free food that was really good!

The ward is awesome! They are so willing and excited to do missionary work!! They have the goal of fellowship at least over the phone for every lesson and they are working with us to get more people out in person! The head offensive coach of NC State is a member. He fed us last night and said he could get us some free merch!

I've heard rumors of a couple new stakes forming and some stake and even mission boundaries changing.

Overall I'm loving the area! The people are crazy and funny and members are amazing and my companions are awesome!

Love y'all!
And thus ended the first week of the fifth transfer

Free food! It's also the only picture with us that I have (Elder Brooks on the left and Elder Freeman on the right)

Church History Museum Visit

My mom and I made this collage for a scout requirement. My mom accidentally put the wrong year on the picture. These pictures are actually from our trip to Utah last December. It was 2015. For scouts I need to write about how this experience helped me feel reverent or helped me better understand my duty to God. It helped me feel reverent because it has historical and religious stuff and only historical and religious stuff. And modern day religious stuff. One example was a replica of the golden plates. We got to lift it to see how heavy they were. They said it was 50 pounds and it was REALLY heavy! Also, I got to see a video that had my Grandma Lynn in it. It was about the early members of the church who were trying to decide who the next prophet should be after Joseph Smith died. Several people had a really strong spiritual experience when Brigham Young began to talk to them and the Holy Ghost helped them know that Brigham Young should be their next prophet. We also went ...

First Week of Home School

On Monday we started home school, On Wednesday at home school I finished a really good book called The Best in the West . It is very interesting. There is an almost eight foot bear in the book! The other book I have read this week is The Tale of Peter Rabbit . It is on my Battle of the Books list. My favorite topic this week has been math. One of the things I learned in math is the hyphen. You don't use a hyphen in numbers one-twenty or in numbers ending in zero. (Because those are whole numbers.) But you do use a hyphen in numbers like twenty-one. I have finished lesson 51. I did all of those lessons plus several quizzes. We went on a walk and saw salmon. They are getting ready to lay eggs and die. They were flopping a lot and fighting over who gets to be in the exact spot where they were born. I got to shoot a BB gun for science. We learned about inertia. We were doing science by shooting the BB gun at a can to see...

A Story From When I was LIttle and Other Stuff

Recently I have been interested in hearing stories about when I was little. One of my favorite stories that Mom told me was about when Ammon and I were little and we would hog the bed. She said that I would come get in her bed over and over again. Dad would carry me back to my own bed, but I would always come back. She said that even though I was small, I would take up ALL the space. Somehow I could make my arms sprawl all over the queen sized bed so there was hardly any room left. When Ammon also tried to get into Mom and Dad's bed it was even worse. Sometimes Dad would just give up on having room and he would go sleep on the couch for the rest of the night. Right now I live in Craig, Alaska on Prince of Wales Island. All of my cousins are in Utah and all of my grandparents are also in Utah. I miss them and am going to visit them in just a few weeks for my baptism. I am inviting all of my cousins, grandmas and grandpas and maybe some of my uncles and one or two aunts. I already ...
