Emergency Transfer and Chaos (Ch6: Lake Wheeler, W5)

 April 20, 2026

And it came to pass in the fifth week of the fifth transfer my companionship changed and chaos ensued

Disclaimer: this is marathon week so my next email will not be until Wednesday the 29th.

One of our zone leaders got sick and had to go home early. Elder Brooks was called to take his spot. Our Saturday morning was very rough because we had to get everything packed and meet up with the other missionaries. Now it is just Elder Freeman and I.

Friday night was awesome! It was our last night together and a member generously gave us some cash so we went to a buffet called Carolina BBQ and got shirts there too! We stayed up pretty late talking and packing. Overall it was stressful, but good.

Saturday hit and everything starting going wrong. We didn't have a trio so Elder Brooks could do contacts while driving like usual so right off the bat it felt like we weren't as effective and then people starting canceling for church. One of which was our most progressing friend, Alex. He got called into work due to very sad unusual circumstances and because he couldn't come to church we had to push his baptism date back a week. He usually needs a ride as well but to get to work he takes his boss's van.

We also had 5 people we needed to find rides for. After 2 hours of calling and texting members (including an hour after the missionary proselyting time day ended) we still had to find 3 rides. I definitely felt super inadequate and it felt like everything was falling apart and the only reason anything went well here was because of Elder Brook's skill and experience.

Sunday morning hits and I wake up to a text from Alex.

So he was able to come to church and he's getting baptized next week! We also have 2 other friends getting baptized this weekend.

On top of that all of our friends got a ride to church!! God is real and he made it all work out. Overall Elder Freeman and I have both been fighting feelings of inadequacy and the pressure of having so many friends preparing for baptism but we are working hard and God is making up the difference.

Miracles are real and we see them everyday! Look and pray for them and you will see them too! God loves and cares about you and if you ask you will receive!

I love you guys very much!
And thus ended the fifth week of the fifth transfer

Our last moments together

I got to sit in a mail van thingy

Church History Museum Visit

My mom and I made this collage for a scout requirement. My mom accidentally put the wrong year on the picture. These pictures are actually from our trip to Utah last December. It was 2015. For scouts I need to write about how this experience helped me feel reverent or helped me better understand my duty to God. It helped me feel reverent because it has historical and religious stuff and only historical and religious stuff. And modern day religious stuff. One example was a replica of the golden plates. We got to lift it to see how heavy they were. They said it was 50 pounds and it was REALLY heavy! Also, I got to see a video that had my Grandma Lynn in it. It was about the early members of the church who were trying to decide who the next prophet should be after Joseph Smith died. Several people had a really strong spiritual experience when Brigham Young began to talk to them and the Holy Ghost helped them know that Brigham Young should be their next prophet. We also went ...

A Story From When I was LIttle and Other Stuff

Recently I have been interested in hearing stories about when I was little. One of my favorite stories that Mom told me was about when Ammon and I were little and we would hog the bed. She said that I would come get in her bed over and over again. Dad would carry me back to my own bed, but I would always come back. She said that even though I was small, I would take up ALL the space. Somehow I could make my arms sprawl all over the queen sized bed so there was hardly any room left. When Ammon also tried to get into Mom and Dad's bed it was even worse. Sometimes Dad would just give up on having room and he would go sleep on the couch for the rest of the night. Right now I live in Craig, Alaska on Prince of Wales Island. All of my cousins are in Utah and all of my grandparents are also in Utah. I miss them and am going to visit them in just a few weeks for my baptism. I am inviting all of my cousins, grandmas and grandpas and maybe some of my uncles and one or two aunts. I already ...

Chapter 2: Siler City North Carolina (Week 2)

And it came to pass in the second week of the first transfer of Elder Shadel in the North Carolina Raleigh Mission... We got stopped by cops!! It was super fun! Apparently we were peeking into car windows from the quadplexes (duplexes but there were 2 on bottom and 2 on top) all 3 of which are a solid 50 feet minimum from the cars. And someone didn't like that and called the cops. Elder Walker and I don't remember looking into any cars but we must have because no one would ever make a false report to the cops. The cops were really chill and we got stickers! A bunch of the people came out to see what was happening and we offered to share a message with them but no one wanted to talk about Jesus. Other random things that came to pass: -A dog bit a whole in one of my pants which is mildly annoying but it's just a small hole. -Service is fun! I like farming and I love goat milk Gelato! Yellow jackets aren't fun though  -I found some random ties laying around! -There are so ...
